Toilet Installation for Oregon City Homes
Toilet installation in Oregon City means removing an old toilet and setting a new one in its place. The job covers disconnecting and hauling away the old unit, inspecting and prepping the floor flange, seating the new bowl on a fresh wax ring, securing it to the floor, and connecting the water supply. We install all standard residential toilet types across Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties as part of our plumbing fixture services from our Oregon City plumbing team.
When it is time for toilet installation
If your toilet has a crack in the bowl or tank that is leaking, replacement is the only safe option. If the toilet predates 1994 and uses 3.5 to 5 gallons per flush, upgrading to a 1.28-gallon high-efficiency model saves thousands of gallons per year. If you are remodeling a bathroom and changing the layout or style, a new toilet is part of that project. If the existing toilet has had repeated repair issues (flange damage, recurring wax ring failures, persistent rocking), a fresh install on a properly prepped flange ends the cycle.
Homeowners upgrading bathrooms in South End and Barclay Hills homes built in the 1960s through 1980s often replace the original 3.5-gallon toilets with modern low-flow models as part of the update.
Our toilet installation process
We shut off the water supply, flush the tank to empty it, and disconnect the supply line. We unbolt the old toilet from the flange and remove it. We inspect the flange for cracks, corrosion, and proper height relative to the finished floor. If the flange is damaged, we repair or replace it before setting the new toilet.
We place a new wax ring on the flange, lower the new bowl onto the closet bolts, and press it into the seal. We level the bowl, tighten the bolts evenly to avoid cracking the porcelain, and attach the tank. We connect the supply line, turn on the water, and run several flush cycles checking for leaks at the base, the tank-to-bowl connection, and the supply fitting.
Toilet installation cost in Oregon City
A straightforward toilet swap where the flange is in good shape and the new toilet fits the existing rough-in distance is a quick job. If the flange needs repair, the rough-in does not match, or the floor underneath has water damage from a previous leak, the scope increases. We assess the setup and give you the price before starting work. Call (503) 919-7243 to schedule.
Common Questions About Toilet Installation
Can I buy my own toilet and have you install it?
Yes. Pick the toilet you want and we will install it. Just confirm the rough-in distance (the measurement from the wall to the center of the drain) matches your bathroom before purchasing. Standard is 12 inches, but some Oregon City homes have 10-inch or 14-inch rough-ins.
How long does toilet installation take?
A standard swap takes about an hour to an hour and a half, including removal of the old unit, flange inspection, setting the new toilet, and testing. If flange repair is needed, add another 30 to 60 minutes.
Do you haul away the old toilet?
Yes. We disconnect, remove, and haul away the old toilet as part of the installation.
What is a rough-in distance and why does it matter?
The rough-in is the distance from the finished wall to the center of the toilet drain in the floor. Most toilets are built for a 12-inch rough-in. If your bathroom has a 10-inch or 14-inch rough-in (common in older Oregon City homes), you need a toilet designed for that measurement or the bowl will sit too far from or too close to the wall.
Should I get a round or elongated bowl?
Elongated bowls are more comfortable for most adults and are the standard in new construction. Round bowls save a couple inches of space, which matters in smaller Clackamas County bathrooms. Either works. We can help you decide based on your bathroom layout.
Do you install bidets or bidet seats?
Yes. A bidet seat replaces the existing toilet seat and connects to the supply line. Some models also need an electrical outlet nearby. A standalone bidet is a separate fixture that requires its own drain and supply connections. We install both.
Is a dual-flush toilet worth it?
Dual-flush toilets use less water on liquid-only flushes (around 0.8 gallons) and a full flush for solids (1.28 gallons). Over a year that adds up to real water savings, especially in a household with multiple people. Oregon homeowners see the benefit on their water bills.
Do I need a permit to install a toilet in Oregon?
A straight toilet replacement on an existing flange typically does not require a permit. If the installation involves moving the drain location or adding a new toilet where one did not exist before, a plumbing permit is required. We will let you know which applies to your job.
